Case Study

User Onboarding. UX.

Insight: More businesses and employees are conscious about our impact on Planet Earth. Sustainability consultancy costs: ~$25K. In-depth business analysis takes 6 months or more.

CVP: Trace makes it easy for businesses to develop and implement sustainability strategies.

Task: The first step is to understand your carbon footprint and become carbon neutral. How can we optimise the funnel, reduce friction, and increase sign-ups?

Impact

By making carbon management as easy as possible for SMEs through Trace's digital platform, more than 1,000 carbon footprints have been measured. Trace has taken the complexity out of the net-zero journey, enabling 300+ businesses to build a decarbonisation plan and offsetting 127,185 tonnes of carbon while supporting biodiversity and conservation projects across Australia, South East Asia and the Pacific.

The success and impact of Trace in Australia drove 20% revenue growth in Q1 2024, including expansion to the UK, EU, US and Middle East.

Ways of working

I follow the double-diamond creative process, guided by customer activity, pain points and feedback. Agile methodologies: research, design, learn, repeat.

  1. 01

    Inception

Question and inform the product brief, set requirements and business objectives, and get backing from the business to kick-start the initiative.

  2. 02

    Research & discovery

Diverging. Testing strategy. Quantitative and qualitative. Continue to refine data findings to support design thinking.

  3. 03

    Concept

Draft hypothesis and validate with customers. Test, iterate, test, repeat.

  4. 04

    Define

Consolidate learnings, enhance designs. Play back to business. Get ready to roadmap.

  5. 05

    Development

Technical design for development. Build, test, iterate.
